God Bless America
by Dennis Johnson, September, 2001
Folks say, "God won't give you more than you can handle".
I've always felt that to be true, even when sorely tested.
I have long since taken that as a personal belief with one change;
"God won't give you more than you can handle. So handle it."
That may, on first read, seem harsh and uncaring.
It is far from that.
When you think about it, we really have but two choices when faced with traumatic events.
We can handle, as best we can, what life brings to us.
Or we can succumb to the situation; in effect allowing it to handle us.
I say we handle whatever comes.
We need not handle it alone.
Let us help each other handle whatever comes.
The terrorist attacks in New York and at the Pentagon, and the loss of the people aboard the plane that went down in Pennsylvania, have brought us shock, pain, death, anger, frustration, and insecurity.
We all mourn the loss of so many lives.
We mourn the loss of innocence for yet another generation of Americans.
We watch terrible scenes as they are played and replayed across our televisions and across our minds and hearts.
Let us join together as one people and stand against this evil.
If you can help someone, do it.
If you need help, say so.
Thanks for visiting and may God Bless America.
